The Oscar DEFINITELY deserved to go to Helen Mirren.<br /></li><li><span style="font-style: italic;">Take the Lead</span> - eh. Poor kids dancing. There are other movies that are bettter. 2/5<br /></li><li><span style="font-style: italic;">One Night with the King</span> - Awful. 1/5 (can I give it a "please don't see this movie?")<br /></li><li><span style="font-style: italic;">The Prestige</span> - Very Very good. Great suspense, and can you ask for a better cast? When you see it for the second time, it's even better. 4.5/5<br /></li><li><span style="font-style: italic;">Flyboys </span>- blah. 2.5/5<br /></li><li><span style="font-style: italic;">A Good Year </span>- I forgot that I had seen this one. That's how memorable it was. I'm sure it was better than I give it credit, but I'd have to watch it with another person to revisit it. 2.5/5<br /></li><li><span style="font-style: italic;">Elisabeth, The Golden Age </span>- Cate Blanchett is Fabulous, though a few too many "beautiful" shots inserted simply for "beauty." 3.5/5 (I LOVE the first movie, <span style="font-style: italic;">Elisabeth, The Virgin Queen</span>. See this movie!)<br /></li></ul>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9230103.post-11236598562137797042007-10-19T08:00:00.000-07:002007-10-19T07:17:36.382-07:00Movies I Want to See<ul><li>The Break Up</li><li>Million Dollar Baby<br /></li><li>The Da Vinci Code</li><li>United 93</li><li>Friends with Money</li><li>A Prairie Home Companion</li><li>The Wind that Shakes the Barley</li><li>You, me & Dupree</li><li>Scoop</li><li>Lady In the Water</li><li> World Trade Center<br /></li><li>The Winslow Boy<br /></li><li>The Black Dahlia<br /></li><li>All the Kings men<br /></li><li>Shindler's List</li><li>The Good Shepherd</li><li>Children of Men</li><li>Hollywoodland</li><li>American Gangster</li><li>Michael Clayton</li><li>Thank You For Smoking</li><li>Supersize Me</li><li>Juno<br /></li></ul>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9230103.post-52257481567330868642007-02-25T06:03:00.000-08:002008-12-10T16:56:34.874-08:00Amazing Grace<a>Review: <span style="font-style: italic;">Amazing Grace</span></a><h3 class="post-title"> </h3> <p><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi179ZO7iDpYH8Hmz4fKPC9Ykgxxe2XLAcGpSrRITLCqcEH0UQYI-LcaH7K6VQg1j5OZQYSd4iBRt9g4X09-BEMNfxS4I1Ljj23YuOKSJ3bLIAx2w6mpgGyzrT23NaZ7eYID5ol/s1600-h/fresh.gif"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi179ZO7iDpYH8Hmz4fKPC9Ykgxxe2XLAcGpSrRITLCqcEH0UQYI-LcaH7K6VQg1j5OZQYSd4iBRt9g4X09-BEMNfxS4I1Ljj23YuOKSJ3bLIAx2w6mpgGyzrT23NaZ7eYID5ol/s200/fresh.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5007717924059164450" border="0" /></a><br />Fresh Rating: 4/5<br /><br />Rating Scale: Excellent - Very Good - Good - Average - Poor<br /><br /><u>Players</u><br />Actor: Ioan Gruffudd - Very Good<br />Actor: Albert Finney- Excellent<br />Supporting Actress: Romola Garai- Very Good<br />Supporting Actor: - Benedict Cumberbatch - Good<br /></p><p><br /></p><p><u>Main Elements:</u> (for Drama)<br />Humor - Good<br />Drama - Excellent</p><p><u>Extra Credit</u><br /></p><p>Amazing Grace doesn't shy away from the fact that a Christian was the main proponant of abolition in Great Britan.<br /><br />Ioan Gruffud plays the part passionately, and it is impossible to not choke up when John Newton utters his famous quote.</p><br />Its compelling enough that the audience applauded at the end of the movie (the first time I've ever been in a theater when that has happened!)<br /><p><u>Deductions:</u><br />Very slow. Kate Boswell brings a vulnerability to Lois Lane that Margot Ridder completely missed, Margot coming straight out of the 70s. I thought I'd be offended with the story line of Jason, Lois' son, but in fact, it helpes the story along.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9230103.post-34332366609686191102006-11-29T13:50:00.000-08:002006-12-01T17:48:52.261-08:00Review: Casino Royale<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger2/5911/1126/1600/538935/fresh.gif"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger2/5911/1126/200/144687/fresh.gif" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />FRESH RATING: 4.5/5<br /><br /><br />Rating Scale: Excellent - Very Good - Good - Average - Poor<br /><br /><u>Players</u><br />Actor: Daniel Craig - Excellent<br />Actress (Bond Girl): Eva Green - Very Good<br />Supporting Actor (the Big Bad): Mads Mikkelsen - Good<br />Supporting Actress (M): Dame Judi Dench - Excellent<br /><br /><u>Main Elements</u> (for Action Flick)<br />Action - Very Good<br />Suspense - Excellent<br />Romance - Very Good (I almost gave it a "Good" but to tell you why would ruin a particular part of the movie for you.)<br /><br /><u>Extra Credit</u><br />Main Characters' Smart Ass Remarks<br />Additional "Edge of Seat" Action Moments<br />Twist at the end<br />Vehicle: Aston Martin. James BondA while ago I started a Yahoo 360 page (because, between my blog and MySpace, I just needed one more page to keep up. </sarcasm>)<br /><br />Because I don't keep more than one opinion/journal blog, I thought I'd use the 360 as a "running log of movies I want to see" page. It didn't offer enough space to format the page as I would have liked, so I moved the contents to a blogger page that I used to modify when playing around with templates.<br /><br />In moving the content over, I've found the Craig as Bond controversy (of which I was blissfully, completely unaware). Now, there's a member of my family that absolutely disagrees with me. She thinks Craig is not attractive at all. I'm (yes, I'll admit it) on the other side of the fence on this one, because I love "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0127536/">Elizabeth</a>," in which he has a small, but significantly scary part. So, I know he can act. (Pierce Brosnan was suave, but act? not reeeaaallly.)<br /><br />So, I put up for a frivolous vote for those reading.<br /><br /><!-- // Begin Pollhost.com Poll Code // --><br /><form method="post" action="http://poll.pollhost.com/vote.cgi"><table bg="" style="color: rgb(238, 238, 238);" border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="150"><tbody><tr><td colspan="2"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:Arial;" ><b>Daniel Craig: Attractive?</b></span></td></tr><tr><td width="5"><input name="answer" value="1" type="radio"></td><td><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:Arial;" >Yes</span></td></tr><tr><td width="5"><input name="answer" value="2" type="radio"></td><td><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:Arial;" >No</span></td></tr><tr><td width="5"><input name="answer" value="3" type="radio"></td><td><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:Arial;" >He grows on you</span></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><input name="config" value="ZXNtZXJlbGRhaAkxMTY0ODU4NjA5CUVFRUVFRQkwMDAwMDAJQXJpYWwJQXNzb3J0ZWQ" type="hidden"><center><input value="Vote" type="submit"> <input name="view" value="View" type="submit"></center></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2" bg="" style="color: rgb(255, 255, 255);" align="right"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:Arial;" ><a href="http://www.pollhost.com/"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Free polls from Pollhost.com</span></a></span></td></tr></tbody></table></form><br /><!-- // End Pollhost.com Poll Code // -->Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
