Rating Scale: Excellent - Very Good - Good - Average - Poor

Players
Actor: Eric Bana - Very Good
Actor: Geoffrey Rush - Excellent
Supporting Actor Daniel Craig - Good
Supporting Actor: Michael Lonsdale ( "Papa") - Excellent

Main Elements: (for Suspense Flick)

Suspense - Very Good
Drama - Good

Extra Credit
"Louis/Papa/The Family" - the French version of the Mafia.
Eric Bana's performance as a fully committed assassin, and the results of being one.

Deductions:
Nudity, Blood, everything they rated it "R" for.
Lots of "Effeys," as we'd say. (F*)
Very Dark movie

Recommendations:
Purchase DVD? No. Rent it.
Watch Repeatedly? Do you watch Saving Private Ryan repeatedly?

Additional Comments:
Munich is "Good" in the way the the Passion of the Christ is "good." You watch it, and realize it's excellently acted, a very well told story. But the events and scenes in the story are overwhelmingly dark.

Movies I've Seen

  • Underworld: Evolution
  • X-Men the Last Stand
  • Mission Impossible 3
  • Cars (11/20/06)
  • Casino Royale
  • Munich
  • Superman Returns
  • The Devil Wears Prada

Review: Superman Returns

FRESH RATING: 4.5/5

Rating Scale: Excellent - Very Good - Good - Average - Poor

Players
Actor: Brandon Routh- Very Good
Actress: Kate Bosworth- Very Good
Supporting Actor (the Big Bad): Kevin Spacey- Very Good
Supporting Actor: James Marsden - Very Good

Main Elements (for Action Flick)
Action - Excellent
Suspense - Good
Romance - Very Good

Extra Credit
Kate Bosworth - Better than expected
Adding Physics to Superman: i.e., the sonic boom because he's moving THAT FAST
Parker Posey as Bad Girl that secretly admires Superman
"upping the stakes" (i.e., "How IS he going to overcome THAT?")

Deductions:
No Real Deductions.

Recommendations:
Purchase DVD? If you are either an action movie fan or a Superman Fan

Additional Comments:
Brandon Routh does a good job of channelling Christopher Reeve, and I was more impressed with Kate Boswell and Parker Posey than I would have thought. Kate Boswell brings a vulnerability to Lois Lane that Margot Ridder completely missed, Margot coming straight out of the 70s. I thought I'd be offended with the story line of Jason, Lois' son, but in fact, it helpes the story along.

Supporting Actress (M): Dame Judi Dench - Excellent

Extra Credit
Main Characters' Smart Ass Remarks
Additional "Edge of Seat" Action Moments
Twist at the end
Vehicle: Aston Martin. Makes you want one.

Deductions:
Overt description of poker. Needed, but breaks up the flow of the movie
Ew factor from blood/eye. You'll see what I mean.

Recommendations:
Worth: Full price Theater
Purchase DVD? Yes. The moment it comes out

Quotes:
BLB & GPB at the first appearance of the Aston Martin: "ooohhhhhh."
LSG's Tennis Partner: "You know, I didn't think he was that good looking at the beginning of the movie. But by the end, I was like, 'Wow. He's really attractive!'"

Additional Comments: The only reason I didn't give this 5/5 is that Batman Begins is (so far) my favorite action movie, and the one by which all others are compared.

Bond. James Bond

A while ago I started a Yahoo 360 page (because, between my blog and MySpace, I just needed one more page to keep up. )

Because I don't keep more than one opinion/journal blog, I thought I'd use the 360 as a "running log of movies I want to see" page. It didn't offer enough space to format the page as I would have liked, so I moved the contents to a blogger page that I used to modify when playing around with templates.

In moving the content over, I've found the Craig as Bond controversy (of which I was blissfully, completely unaware). Now, there's a member of my family that absolutely disagrees with me. She thinks Craig is not attractive at all. I'm (yes, I'll admit it) on the other side of the fence on this one, because I love "Elizabeth," in which he has a small, but significantly scary part. So, I know he can act. (Pierce Brosnan was suave, but act? not reeeaaallly.)

So, I put up for a frivolous vote for those reading.

Daniel Craig: Attractive?
Yes
No
He grows on you
